The world is getting easier to travel, and increasingly familiar when you arrive. Central Asia still feels different.
These are countries most of us know by name rather than experience: Silk Road cities, Soviet architecture, mountain valleys, desert landscapes and people whose hospitality tends to become the the part travellers remember most.
They are changing quickly. Better connected, easier to reach and increasingly comfortable to travel through, but not yet ordinary.
